What Is a Pleurectomy? A pleurectomy is a procedure that’s done for treatment of certain conditions that damage the pleura and affect the lungs. The pleura is comprised of the parietal pleura (closest to the chest wall), the visceral pleura (closest to the lungs), and the pleural cavity (a fluid-filled space between the layers).
