The vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech has been widely touted as one of the most promising candidates against COVID-19. Pfizer started the phase 3 clinical trial of the vaccine, known as BNT162b2, on July 27. It has so far enrolled over 43,500 people, almost 39,000 of which have had two doses of the vaccine. In the press release, Pfizer said it will continue to enroll participants until the “final analysis,” which will be when 164 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed among the cohort....

Some customers have not had their power returned after the weekend shutdowns and will now face several more days of no power. According to KCRA3, 970,000 customers were affected by the shutdown on Saturday and 556,400 customers had their power restored as of Monday 10 p.m. Twenty-nine counties in the northern and southern Sierra, North Bay, Bay Area and Santa Cruz mountains, north coast and Kern County areas will be affected by Tuesday’s shutdown....

A resident called the U.K.-based animal charity the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) was called to a garden in the English town of Northwich after they noticed a squirrel had gotten stuck in their neighbor’s bird feeder. The feeder, which was intended for small birds to use from the outside, was hanging from a bird table before the squirrel got in, according to the RSPCA....

The Cumbre Vieja volcano started erupting on September 19, causing widespread destruction. La Palma is located in the Canary Islands archipelago off the coast of northwest Africa. “What I want to say today can be said with just four words: The eruption is over,” regional security chief Julio Perez said on Saturday, according to Reuters.
