Whitaker was shot twice in the back by Officer Jeff Cooke in May 2020, less than three seconds after Whitaker answered the door of his Ahwatukee apartment. Police were responding to a noise complaint when Whitaker answered the door while holding a gun at his side. His family said he did so because they had recent issues with someone banging on their door at night. Body camera footage shows Whitaker immediately move the gun behind his back upon seeing the officers at the door....

Deputy Juan “Johnny” Ruiz was injured on Saturday and died on Monday, Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone said in a statement. Ruiz arrested Clinton Robert Hurley, the man accused of attacking him, on Saturday morning. Hurley had outstanding warrants for his arrest and Ruiz was transferring him into a holding cell at a substation in suburban Avondale, the Associated Press reported. Police said Hurley was uncuffed and beat Ruiz, who tried to radio for assistance several times....

Residents and reporters shared photos and videos of the flooding on social media on Thursday, showing high water and blocked off areas. Nawshad Ataul Quaiyum, 49, a pilot on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying 126 passengers to Dhaka in Bangladesh from Muscat in Oman was forced to call for an emergency landing at the Nagpur airport in India on August 27 after suffering a heart attack, according to The New Indian Express. The affected flight was flown to the Nagpur airport by the co-pilot of the plane on Friday after crew members called the Kolkata Air Traffic Control to request an emergency landing and were told to travel to the airport....
