City, federal and military officials have faced bureaucratic struggles on how the thousands of National Guard troops and Washington, D.C. police are expected to keep the peace as some organizers hope to get one million people people to demonstrate. District of Columbia law enforcement officials announced the closure of much of downtown Washington’s North West (NW) quadrant from 6 a.m. through midnight Saturday, ahead of the scheduled protests. Several local theaters – closed for months amid the coronavirus pandemic – have temporarily reopened to allow protesters to use the restroom or take a break temperatures expected to reach nearly 90 degrees....

A news release from the Florida Highway Patrol said a white Mercedes driven by the 23-year-old Cuban defector was pulled over around 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said Puig was arrested and charged with reckless driving and taken to the Collier County Jail for processing. Puig lives in the Miami area during the offseason. Dodgers spokesman Joe Jareck declined to comment on Puig's latest arrest. In April, when he was still in the minors, Puig was charged with reckless driving and speeding after Chattanooga, Tenn....

When authorities arrived at the Royal Elite Palace Caterers that night, they reported “large groups of people entering the location through what appears to be an indoor parking area as well as loud music coming from the location.” The NYC Sheriff’s Department tweeted that there were 284 guests illegally gathered at the event....

The Riviera Beach Police Department said in a statement that Chief Nathan Osgood had resigned on Friday after an internal investigation and an independent inquiry both found he had “deviated from proper procedure” last August, when Councilman Douglas Lawson was detained over a domestic dispute. On August 29, 2021, Lawson was caught on surveillance cameras shoving his then fiancée, Jade Calloway, according to WPTV. The incident took place in the elevator and parking garage of the Marina Grande condominium, where the couple lived....

The Bellevue Police Department issued a statement late Wednesday night saying Lynch wasn’t involved and that the case remained open. The police department expressed appreciation for cooperation from Lynch and the Seahawks. Police initially released a statement Monday mentioning Lynch. The Seahawks released a statement a day later saying they believed the accusations to be “bogus” after speaking with Lynch.

“It’s unheard of!” Sari, who represents Montreal-Nord on the city council, said in a statement Monday afternoon. “What right do SPVM officers have to intervene and hamper the work of an elected official? “It is ironic that I would be refused entry to a conference on the interception of racialized people when I myself am an elected official of Maghrebin origin.” Sari was stopped by police outside of the event, and a video posted to Ensemble Montreal’s Twitter account shows him speaking strongly to the police who have barred his entry to the forum....

The Times-Tribune in Scranton, Pennsylvania, reports that Alexis Brown was trying to sell her iPhone 6S online for $100. A buyer contacted her to say he was interested, and the pair met on Alder Street at South Irving Avenue to complete the transaction. The buyer, described as a man in his late teens or early 20s with a slim build and blond hair, handed her a roll of bills bound together with a rubber band....

Officers with the Houston Police Department discovered the victim in the 300 block of East Delz Drive, in north Houston, at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday night. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the police department said on Twitter. KHOU11 reported that the man had been found in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim’s identity has not been revealed but according to the station, he was in his forties....

As part of the settlement, MSP will be banned from using excessive force or arresting journalists who are covering protests. It will also be required to pay out $825,000 to journalists attacked by MSP while covering racial injustice protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd in 2020, according to ACLU-MN’s official statement. The case was brought against MSP by the state’s chapter of the ACLU on behalf of journalist Jared Goyette, the Communications Workers of America and other unnamed reporters....

The two charges are municipal citations. The Milwaukee County district attorney's office has said it has no plans to issue criminal charges against Sanders. Ernest Johnson, 61, is set to be executed Tuesday at 6 p.m. for killing three people during a convenience store robbery in 1994. Jeremy Weis, Johnson’s attorney, said that executing Johnson is prohibited by the Eighth Amendment, which prevents executing intellectually disabled people. Weis explained that Johnson was born with fetal alcohol syndrome, and in a 2008 surgery to remove a benign tumor, lost about 20 percent of his brain tissue....
