Despite the government’s propaganda image of a society marching in lockstep behind the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP), these protests are far from unique: between June and October of this year, Freedom House’s China Dissent Monitor tracked at least 822 public expressions of dissent, with incidents scattered among 27 provinces. There is no denying that Chinese citizens have a lot to protest about. The CCP has created one of the most repressive governments in the world....

“As of this morning [Sunday], approximately 5,000 National Guard Soldiers and Airmen were activated in response to civil disturbances in 15 states and D.C., with another 2,000 prepared to activate if needed. The situation is fluid so those numbers can change rapidly,” the National Guard confirmed in a statement Sunday. Protests have erupted in more than 30 cities across the nation, as of Friday, while at least 25 cities have imposed curfews and activated their National Guard forces, CNN reported Sunday....

The Department of Justice said Friday that two Proud Boy members have been indicted in Washington, D.C. “for conspiring to obstruct law enforcement, among other charges.” Dominic Pezzola, 43, of Rochester, New York, and William Pepe, 31, of Beacon, New York, were named as the two Proud Boys members. They were charged with conspiracy; civil disorder; unlawfully entering restricted buildings or grounds; and disorderly and disruptive conduct in restricted buildings or grounds....

The motion, brought forward by leader of the New Democratic Party Jagmeet Singh, was passed in Canadian House of Commons on Monday but will still need to be approved by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau before it is an official designation. The motion called upon the government to “use all available tools to address the proliferation of white supremacists and hate groups starting with immediately designating the Proud Boys as a terrorist entity,” reports Global News....

The messages are written as though they are from the cell owner’s carrier, with a note about their bill and then an offer of a free gift if they click an attached link. Usually, spam links lead to a form the target is asked to complete to receive their “free gift”, which typically asks for their contact and bank details. But many users duped into tapping on the link supposedly from their own phone report being directed to Russian news websites, sparking fear the scam is part of a propaganda campaign centering on the war in Ukraine....
