A petition on Change.org is seeking to have the team to revoke its invitation to the former quarterback. As of Friday morning, it had reached 8,000 of its 10,000-supporter goal, less than 24 hours after the petition drive was started. During a Wednesday meeting held by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, officials announced that there was a higher-than-expected number of reports of myocarditis or pericarditis in those aged 16 to 24 who received the mRNA vaccines. Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle and pericarditis is the inflammation of the lining around the heart. Symptoms include chest pain and shortness of breath, which typically develop a few days after receiving the shot....

The new data comes from a 44,000-person study that initiated the widespread use of the vaccine. It showed the vaccine to remain highly effective in the first few months of immunization. Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech have tracked those study participants for six months and will continue to do so. These findings will be just one piece of evidence that U.S. health officials review when deciding if and when booster doses will be needed....

The settlement funds will go to 10 government agencies in the Sonoma, Shasta and Tehama counties, where the Kincade and Zogg Fires wreaked havoc. PG&E’s remaining charges, all of which the company denies, address the public health endangerment caused by the Kincade Fire and resulting injuries sustained by six firefighters. The Shasta County District Attorney’s office may also be able to file criminal charges after the state of California delivered a report on PG&E’s involvement in the Zogg Fire....

It was the site of Tiger Woods’ 13th major victory, his 2007 PGA Championship at the prime age of 32. I don’t think anyone thought he’d only win two more majors over the next 15 years. First, don’t be afraid to get crazy with your lineups. I would recommend leaving hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in salary, on the table to give yourself a better chance of having a unique lineup. The Tour Championship is also an event where sleepers can and do win frequently (Billy Horschel, Brandt Snedeker, Bill Haas, and Jim Furyk have all won this event in the past six years), so absolutely don’t be afraid to dive deep into the field and fade some of the bigger names....

But what an opera. Composer John Corigliano and librettist William M. Hoffman (who consider themselves equal partners) call it “grand opera buffa,” which doesn’t begin to convey its musical and dramatic scope. The phantasmagoric “Ghosts” is about love, loyalty, politics and, most compelling, the power of art. In a time warp of shifting realities and possibilities, it’s consumed with death, yet electric with life. Contemporary opera doesn’t have a good track record, and at the Met it hardly has one at all....

Martina Obi-Uzom, a devout Christian pharmacist in the seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea, was acquitted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but convicted on charges of unlawful wounding. The 70-year-old Obi-Uzom took the unnamed boy to a mohel, an expert trained in the procedure, in the Golders Green section of London, which is known for its large Jewish population. Once there, she and a male friend pretended to be the boy’s parents and Obi-Uzom signed the required consent forms....
