Last week, lawyers for Davis and the school board argued their case before the Supreme Court. The board has said that Davis’s complaints were addressed, though they admit they do not have a ““paper trail’’ on disciplinary action against G.F. But their main defense was to assert that the sexual-harassment liability laws which govern the workplace do not extend to schools. Though the Supreme Court last year ruled that schools could be sued under Title IX if administrators failed to act when a teacher sexually harassed a student, defense attorneys insisted that schools, not the courts, should decide the appropriate way to handle harassment between students....

Macias Santiago, 37, of Midland, Texas, was arrested on Friday, two days after President Joe Biden’s inauguration, for carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of a firearm, unregistered ammunition, and unlawful transport of a firearm. According to court documents, he drove down Constitution Ave near The Ellipse on January 22 and parked his pickup truck in front of a parking meter, before asking a nearby D.C. police officer whether he could stop at that location....

Brendon Wayne Spurrell, who previously served jail time for raping a minor, was released by mistake after an administrative error sometime between Friday and Sunday, the Ottawa Citizen reported. The 22-year-old had been found guilty for breach of probation at the Ottawa courthouse on Friday, the newspaper reported. He was supposed to remain in custody while awaiting trial on several other charges. The Citizen reported that it was not immediately clear if Spurrell was released from the courthouse or if he was let out of the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre, where he was being held....

Police Scotland say six men are in hospital and are being treated for their injuries, including a 42-year-old police officer who is in a “critical but stable condition.” The incident is not being treated as terrorism at this stage and investigations are continuing, according to Police Scotland. Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson said: “Police responded to a report of an incident at the Park Inn Hotel in West George Street, Glasgow, at 12....
