“Customers should prepare for a shutoff lasting 48 hours or longer, given the long duration of the wind event,” the company said in a Friday afternoon statement.

At press time, California is grappling with The Tick Fire, a 4,300 acre burn that’s only 5 percent contained. As of Friday, 600 firefighters were battling the blaze.

The announced shutdowns also come on the heels of Governor Gavin Newsom announcing that the state will hold PG&E “accountable” for the Tick Fire for “simply not doing their jobs,” according to CNN.

“We will hold them accountable,” Newsom said, “This is not the new normal, this cannot continue.”

Bill Johnson, CEO of PG&E, has said that it’s too soon to determine the source of the fire and an investigation is still ongoing.
