PGA Tour playoffs: What’s at stake?

The top 70 players in FedExCup points will be competing this week for part of an $8.75 million purse with the winner securing 2,000 FedExCup points and $1.575 million. The top 30 players after the final round on Sunday will move on to the last tournament of the PGA Tour playoffs in Atlanta at East Lake for the TOUR Championship.

After the second event with the Dell Technologies Championship, notable players that failed to make the top-70 cut are: Bubba Watson, Adam Scott, Branden Grace, Jimmy Walker and Presidents Cup captain Steve Stricker.

The field will be again, cut almost in half this time, heading from Conway Farms to East Lake. It’s no secret the season will end for some big names. In order to keep their season going, Sergio Garcia (34), Phil Mickelson (36) and Rory McIlroy (51) are on the bubble or outside the top-30 and will need to have strong finishes this week. Louis Oosthuiezen, Jason Dufner, Henrik Stenson, Jason Day, Gary Woodland and Bill Haas round out the final spots in the top-30 cut off before the BMW Championship tees off. A lot of golf has to be played before we know who will make the final cut for the last event.
