PGA Tour playoffs: What’s at stake?
The winner earns more than $1.5 million and 2,000 FedExCup points. Only the top 70 players in FedExCup points after this weekend move on to week three for the BMW Championship at Conway Farms.
Bubba Watson is one player on the bubble at No. 72. He started last weekend in 113th, but managed to tie for 10th at Glen Oaks to jump 40 spots in the right direction. Other notable players outside the cut are: Adam Scott (73), Harold Varner III (91) and Branden Grace (99).
Mickelson needs to play well if he hopes to impress Presidents Cup captain Steve Stricker. The 12-player team will be decided on Sept. 6 and Mickelson ranks 18th in Presidents Cup points. Mickelson’s last shot is to play well at TPC Boston and be awarded one of the two wildcard spots, chosen by Stricker. Mickelson won at the course in 2007, but his play hasn’t looked promising over the last few weeks.

After an exciting playoff victory against Jordan Spieth at The Northern Trust, Dustin Johnson moved into first place in the FedExCup standings. Rounding out the top five heading into the second event are: Spieth, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama and Jon Rahm.
Players are grouped by FedExCup points standings, so that puts Johnson, Spieth and Thomas together on Friday and Saturday. That marquee group tees off Friday at 9:15 a.m ET and Saturday at 1:40 p.m.
Matsuyama will be playing with Rahm and Fowler and they tee off Friday at 1:40 p.m and Saturday at 9:15 p.m. Matsuyama missed the cut at Glen Oaks and fell from the top spot down to No. 4. His rare missed cut ended Matsuyama’s streak of five consecutive top-15 finishes.
