PlayStation State of Play is Sony’s take on the beloved Nintendo Direct, but with its own spin. Some of the most-anticipated games for PlayStation were revealed during past State of Plays like Resident Evil Village, and the sequels to God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn.
But what can PlayStation fans expect from this week’s stream? The PS5 is looking to bolster its library of exclusives to make the console more desirable than it already is, so if you’re looking to know the latest in what PlayStation has in store, continue reading.
PLAYSTATION STATE OF PLAY START TIME
The latest PlayStation State of Play online presentation will begin Thursday, February 25 at 5 p.m. EDT.
PlayStation confirmed on its blog that it will be around 30 minutes long so expect it to last until close to 6 p.m. EDT.
HOW TO WATCH PLAYSTATION STATE OF PLAY ONLINE
Fans can watch the February PlayStation State of Play live on either the gaming company’s Twitch channel, which can be viewed on desktops, or via the Twitch app on your mobile device or gaming consoles, minus the Nintendo Switch.
The official PlayStation YouTube channel will also host the live online presentation. Like Twitch, fans can watch the stream on desktops or via the YouTube app on mobile devices and all gaming consoles. Yes, even the Nintendo Switch this time.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Heading into March 2021, PlayStation will want to get a headstart on hyping up the games they are expected to release this year. The official blog confirms that there will be updates on 10 games coming to PS4 and PS5, including new game announcements and updates on some of the third-party and indie titles you last saw in June’s PS5 showcase.
Insomniac Games’ Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the only PS5 exclusive that has a hard 2021 release date so we’ll likely see more footage from that title. However, fans should expect updates from at least one of Sony’s already-announced first-party titles.
Sony CEO Jim Ryan mentioned off-hand in a recent interview that Horizon Zero Dawn’s sequel is confirmed for a late 2021 release, meaning an update on the title is very possible. Unfortunately, Ryan didn’t mention the sequel to God of War (2018) so it’s unlikely we’ll get an update on that unless they want to confirm it will come out in 2022.
Updates on third-party titles like Resident Evil Village are also highly likely, as it’s one of the most-anticipated titles of the first half of the year. However, we’re looking forward to something unexpected this time around. Though the details are unknown, we expect something scheduled for a summer release would be smart for Sony to reveal.
It should be noted that talks about the PS5 hardware or anything business-focused won’t happen during this State of Play. News on the second PSVR is not likely, so viewers should just be ready to learn about some new games.
