Brad Keselowski took the pole position with a speed of 181.726 mph to top the final segment of Friday’s qualifying. Teammate Joey Logano also will start on the front row.

It is Keselowski’s 12th career pole and first of the season. His previous best start was fourth at Las Vegas. Penske Racing has swept the front row eight times in the NASCAR Sprint Cup ranks, most recently at Kentucky Speedway in 2014. Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott was the top rookie in qualifying.

Keselowski has two wins this season. Logano, who won six races last season, is seeking his first 2016 victory. Keselowski has therefore already qualified for a berth in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Keselowski won at Pocono in 2014 and has an average finish of 10.4 in Cup races at the track.

Before qualifying, he expressed confidence in preparing for Sunday’s race.

“As far as what we are looking at, it has been a good track for us,” Keselowski said. “We have finished second the last few races and we have the one win here a few years back and we would like to add to that. I think the guys are ready to do that. We have had a good stretch the last three or four weeks of being very competitive and leading laps and being up front. We didn’t get the wins we wanted out of it but we did get one win and that is something.

“We are climbing up in points, not that it really matters, but it feels good and gives us a lot of confidence and belief in ourselves that we can go out and win this week. Along with that we tested here, which was kind of interesting, and I think we might have learned a few things.”

For his part, Logano was disappointed to fail to win the pole after being fastest in each of the first two qualifying rounds.

“The last two weeks we have been the fastest car in the first two rounds and given it up in the third,” he said. “You want to get those poles. The pole means a lot and it is cool to rack up that stat but overall both Team Penske Fusions are up front and that says a lot about where our organization is right now. Man I just wanted to get the pole. It stings but it’s cool we are up front.”
