But neither team’s progress is secured going into the final fixture, and so they know that only a win will ensure they fend off Saudi Arabia and Mexico to go through.
That should make for a lively game, for which both managers will know they have to get their selections spot on.
Below are the confirmed lineups for both teams.
Poland vs Argentina lineups
Czeslaw Michniewicz won’t be going down the route of man-to-man marking as he looks to keep Lionel Messi quiet on Wednesday.
The Poland boss insists that only through teamwork will his side be able to limit the influence of their opponents’ talismanic No.10 on proceedings.
“It’s a great question, how to stop Lionel Messi – I think all the world has been thinking about it for years, and I don’t think we’re ever going to find out the final answer,” Michniewicz said.
“Today at the briefing we said that Messi behaves on the pitch like [Olympic skier] Alberto Tomba on the slope. He is able to avoid everyone like Tomba, get around everyone.
“So I need to put our players to make it difficult for Messi, because if he is able to ride through easily, he will score easily. We need to do it with teamwork.”
