No ticket matched all of Saturday (May 22) night’s winning numbers, which were: 3, 19, 27, 37, 40. The Powerball was 8 and the Power Play was X2.
It means that the jackpot, which stood at $218 million, went unclaimed once again.
By the time of the next drawing—on Thursday, May 27—the top prize will have gone unclaimed for two months. It was last won on March 27, when a player from Florida scooped $238 million.
The next jackpot is expected to be just shy of that sum, at an estimated $236 million (with a cash value of $161.1 million).
While May 22’s drawing failed to produce a jackpot winner, there were many smaller winners.
Three tickets matched five numbers, without the Powerball, to win $1 million. One player matched five numbers with an X2 Power Play, to win $2 million.
Sixteen tickets matched four numbers plus the Powerball to win $50,000, with an additional six tickets doing so with a Power Play to take home $100,000.
Smaller $100 prizes were won by 457 ticket-holders, who matched four numbers without the Powerball. A further 131 tickets won $300, courtesy of a Power Play.
Each ticket has the same chance of winning. There is a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning any prize, according to Powerball’s official website.
The odds of winning the big jackpot are significantly longer at 1 in 292,201,338.
If you do win, you can choose to take your prize as an annuity, or for significantly less, a lump-sum payment.
The annuity option sees the winner receive 30 annual payments over the space of 29 years, with each payment increasing by five percent until the 30th and final payment.
