If you do win the Powerball grand prize, you can choose to take your prize as an annuity, or for significantly less, a lump-sum payment. The annuity option gives you 30 annual payments over the space of 29 years, with each payment increasing by five percent until the 30th and final payment.

Where your ticket money goes
Each Powerball ticket costs $2 per play. Players select one Powerball number from 1 to 26, and five other numbers from 1 to 69.
Players can multiply non-jackpot prizes by using the Power Play option for an additional $1.
Half of ticket sales go to fund prizes, with 35 percent benefitting good causes, according to Powerball’s website.
Another 6 percent of a ticket sale goes to retailer commissions, while 9 percent of a goes to operating expenses.
