The Powerball jackpot for November 6 was an estimated $40 million, with a cash option of $28 million. Nobody won the jackpot as nobody matched five balls and the Powerball. Therefore, the jackpot for the next drawing on Sunday, November 10, is estimated to be $50 million, with a cash option of $34.9 million.
The jackpot estimate was $40 million as, during the previous drawing on November 2, someone matched five numbers and the Powerball, winning $150 million. Therefore, the jackpot was reset to $40 million. The ticket for the winning jackpot was purchased in California.
Last night, somebody matched five balls, which normally has a prize of $1 million. This winner used the power play, however, which means their prize was $2 million. The $1 million prize is always doubled to $2 million with a power play, no matter if it’s X2, X3, X4, X5, or X10.
Three people matched four balls and the Powerball, which means they each won $50,000. If they had used the power play, they each would have won $150,000. The power play will multiply any prize except for the jackpot, and the $1 million prize, which is always doubled with a power play.
What is the powerplay?
The power play can be purchased for an additional $1 per play and the multiplier number is selected just before the drawing. The X10 multiplier can only be selected when the advertised jackpot annuity is $150 million or less.
How to play Powerball?
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and can be bought at any licensed retailer in 44 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Players select five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls and select one number between 1 and 26 for the red Powerball. Players can choose their numbers on a play slip or have the lottery terminal randomly pick their numbers.
Powerball players also have the option of selecting the number of consecutive drawings they want to play with Multi-Draw or Advance Play. The Multi-Draws or Advance Plays available for purchase is dependent on the state.
Powerball draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET and ticket sales close around two hours before the drawing but dependent on jurisdiction. The odds of winning a prize on Powerball are 1 in 24.9 no matter the size of the jackpot. There are nine ways to win a prize, ranging from $4 to the jackpot.
