No one won the jackpot, meaning it carries over until next week. The next draw will take place on May 6, with an estimated jackpot of $59 million, or a cash value of $48.3 million. This is the seventh time the winnings have rolled over.
Not only did no one win the jackpot, no one guessed five numbers to claim the second prize of $1,000,000, either.
But there were a total of 378,311 winners last night, and $3,547,135 to be claimed.
Five people correctly guess four number and the Powerball to claim $50,000. A further 171 people put down four numbers, winning $100 each. 451 people guessed three numbers plus the Powerball, meaning they can claim $100.
Other winners included 11,477 people who matched with three numbers to get $7; 9,594 guessed two numbers and the Powerball to win $7 and 76,901 won $4 by guessing one number plus the powerball. In addition,188,071 can claim $4 after they put down the Powerball number.
The Powerball lottery can be played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and entrants must choose five numbers between one and 69. For the Powerball, they must pick a number between one and 26. Draws are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
Last month, a man identified only as Joe B from Pueblo, Colorado, claimed $1 million from Powerball after winning on March 25, according to a news release. CNN reported he had played the same numbers for 30 years.
When asked by staff at the drive-thru claims office in Pueblo how he planned to spend his prize, he said: “The Boss has plans for it,” jokingly referring to his wife.
In another example of luck with the lottery, a Delaware man won $100,000 before taxes after playing a winning $50,000 ticket twice for the January 18 Powerball. The unnamed 61-year-old bought a ticket with three plays at a store, and unwittingly bought an identical ticket the next day by using the same payslip.
The man said: “When I returned to the store after the drawing, I couldn’t believe I had won when I scanned the first ticket.
“A few hours later, when I scanned the second ticket and saw it had also won, I was shaking. It was unbelievable.”
After taxes, he won $76,000. The man said he planned to pay off some bills with his winnings and save the rest.
