Sony announced last week that gamers who wish to buy the PS5 and the PS5 Digital consoles will have to do it online. Retailers will not be able to sell the next-gen consoles in-store on November 12–or November 19, depending on your region.
“No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online,” Sid Shuman Senior Director, SIE Content Communications, wrote in a blog post last week.
However, retailers like Walmart and Best Buy will have ways to get the system on PS5 launch day. We also recommend following Wario64 on Twitter for the latest on when sites have more PS5 units in stock.
The PS5 will be released on November 12 in the following countries: United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The rest of the world gets it on November 19.
WALMART
After Sony’s announcement, Walmart took to social media to let gamers know when they will have a chance to order the PS5 online.
Gamers will have to go to the official PS5 landing page on Walmart’s site to try and order the console. Here are the following times gamers will have a chance to purchase the PS5:
12pm ET3pm ET6pm ET9pm ET
GAMESTOP
GameStop has not given guidelines to how it will handle the PS5 launch, but they may have some units available to pre-order on the site. No specific times were given so at this rate it’s all about luck.
Follow the official PS5 section on GameStop.com to see if units will be sold.
BEST BUY
Before the launch of the Xbox Series X/S, Best Buy provided gamers some insight on what to expect from launch day on its site. On the corporate blog, Best Buy confirmed that it will not sell the PS5 on November 12 and gamers will have to purchase it online.
Gamers can select to pick it up in-store after purchase or have contactless curbside.
Best Buy didn’t give guidance on when units of the PS5 will go live, but gamers will want to continue checking on the PS5 section of the site.
TARGET
Similar to the launch of the Xbox Series X/S, Target will only be selling the PS5 online this week.
No time for when more units will be sold was given, but the official site states that PS5’s can only be ordered with contactless Drive Up or Order Pickup on November 12.
Be sure to continue to check on restocks on the Target PS5 section.
